How to Let Sound Put You in The Present Moment

How To Let Sound Put You in The Present Moment

Greetings!
This week BSA discusses How to Let Sound Put You in the Present Moment. Have you ever noticed the symphony of sounds in nature? Can you feel the vibration of these peaceful sounds travel through you? The next time you are rushing around and feeling stressed out take a moment and tune into the natural sounds that surround you. You'll be amazed how your body will immediately become relaxed. You'll wonder why you're rushing in the first place.
,

Open Your Ears and Become Present

The next time you take a walk in the neighborhood or the park let your body become fully aware of the present moment. You will begin to notice that your mind will identify each sound whether it is the whistling sound through the tops of trees, chipmunks rustling around the ground, birds chirping or even cars passing on the road.
What you will begin to notice is that you are hearing sounds that happen everyday but the difference is that you are tuned in and staying present rather than getting lost in your personal thoughts. Just as you allow the natural sounds of nature ease into your awareness and then leave, you can do the same with your thoughts.  As a result you can experience an internal quiet rather then noise.

Practice Hearing Meditations

When you take your walks from now on practce a hearing meditation by allowing the sounds to enter freely followed by a sense of gratitude. Invariably you will begin to see things more clearly, hear better, smell and even taste the moment. These are the simple things in life that are always present but not necessarily noticed. You'll find you become a part of each sound and each sound becomes a part of you. This is living in the moment at its best.
Try to use the sounds around you to access a quiet mind, whether you are outside in nature or in a the heart of the city. It doesn't make a difference the key is to open your sense of hearing fully and become a part of the sound. Hear with your entire body and allow the vibration of sound to resonate through your body. You will begin to notice the world swirling before you while your thoughts retreat. This is how you awaken your body and spirit to the present moment.

Ahimsa ~ The Yogic Philosophy to Peace

Ahimsa ~ The Yogic Philosophy to Peace
There is a way to achieve harmony with our environment and others according to Hindu belief  and yogic philosophy. In Hindu philosophy the principles of divine law inspire men and women to live in compassion and nonviolence. The rishis were mystics who believe all beings exist in interlaced dependence. In other words, the whole is contained in the part and the part in the whole. Based on this concept, oneness arose for the basis of noninjury or nonviolence.

Hindus believe in the existence of God everywhere. This basic belief  creates the attitude of sublime tolerance and acceptance towards others. The concept of ahimsa is based upon one not wanting to hurt something which one revered. Ahimsa is not about good and evil but rather abstaining from causing harm whether physical, mental or emotional. All the experiences in this life are of one's own creation, though it may be acted out through others.
Pantajali (circa 100 ce) regards ahimsa as the yogis vow which those seeking truth must follow it strictly and without fail. This was meant not only to condemn killing but also harm caused by words, and deeds including injury to the natural environment.

Ahimsa is wisdom, a cumulative knowledge of divine laws and the sacredness of all things. Peace is a reflection of spiritual consciousness and violence is a reflection of unevolved consciousness. The unevolved or lower nature on this planet right now are seen as the antagonists and protective of only their immediate environment. All others are their enemies where jealousy, fear and anger run rampant. In time, those of lower nature will come into a higher nature so humanity may progress from the darkness to higher divine light.

What's Really Important?

 What's Really Important

From the best selling book Don't Sweat The Small Stuff, chapter 94 addresses the issue of getting to know what is really important. It's very easy to become easily overwhelmed in daily responsibilities and be tempted to postpone what is most important in life. One of the author's recommendations is to keep asking yourself, "What's really important?"

What I find to be helpful is to start each day with meditation. This is a reminder for me that peace of mind, body and spirit comes first. Despite the multitude of responsibilities that may be on my schedule for the day, I know I have a choice to place my focus on keeping myself in alignment so I can do a better job for what lies ahead.

By taking the time each day to figure out what is really important to you in life and focusing your greatest amount of energy towards that will make a big difference in how you experience life. You will actually become more present-moment oriented and that will naturally reduce stress.

If you take just a few minutes each day to check in with yourself to ask what really is important you may find that all along you have been in conflict with what is important to you. By taking two steps back and becoming more present-oriented you will effectively reduce stress and be happier with how your day unfolds.

Profound Benefits of Meditation

 Meditation

The practice of meditation has been around since the dawn of the age of man. How is it that possible? Most likely because there is nothing else that bestows the many blessings that meditation brings. Below are just a few of the many benefits this ancient practice can bring about.

1.Peace: With daily meditation a profound sense of peace overcomes your mind, body and spirit. There is nothing like a quiet mind. Letting go of all the chatter can have a profound impact on your life.

2. Wisdom: Meditation naturally opens up the channels of higher self giving rise to intuition and wisdom.

3. Happiness: Through meditation the outer layers of the false self strip away so your true identity can shine forth. You can let go of the ego and just be you. This is very liberating and brings about an overwhelming sense of joy.

4. Compassion: Through meditation you will discover the interconnected nature of all things and that includes people. You will no longer feel separate from others. This leads to love, compassion and a dramatic improvement of relationships.

5. Health: Meditation reduces stress as it forces you to live in the present moment so anxiety and worry fade to the background. This natural state of relaxed awareness makes you feel stronger and healthier and better able to fight off illness.

6. Improved Thinking: Meditation naturally quiets the mind so you can focus and think better. You'll find your problem solving abilities to improve dramatically.

7. Discover Your Soul's Mission: As you let go of the ego-self you will find out who you really are and this will give you insight into what you really love in life. That of course is the secret to mastering the art of living.

8. Improved Intuition & Psychic Ability: Practicing meditation and yoga naturally awakens the dormant areas of the brain. There is a heightened awareness to intuition and psychic energy that can be used constructively to help others and oneself on the spiritual path.

9. Magnificence: Meditation naturally brings on the characteristics of charisma, confidence, courage and balance. It's as if your heart is singing an opera. It's magnificent.

10. Enlightenment: This is the ultimate meaning behind meditation. To understand the non-dual nature of reality and to realize we are all divine and one with God.

Six Steps to Finding Inner Harmony

 Butchart Garden ~ BC

Finding inner harmony is something we all desire. So how can we find peace within? Here are six simple ways to find that inner sanctuary.

1. Find a quiet place. Many times this can be difficult unless you live out in the country so make the best of what you have already.

2. Find a comfortable position. Whether you are lying down and gazing up at the sky or sitting comfortably in a chair, just be sure your posture doesn't interrupt your breath.

3. Connect with your senses. This is the time to tune into the ambient sounds of nature that surround you. Notice the gentle breeze that crosses your body, the warmth of the sun, the scent of flowers wafting and birds singing. This is a time to become fully aware of the beauty of nature.

4. Be at peace. Connect with your breath and the natural vibration of the universe. Really take in this tranquil feeling.

5. Look within and accept. This is your true spirit and nature. It is honesty and integrity at its best. This is the time to let go of the ego-mind and let your spirit shine through.

6. Interact with Mother Nature. Touch and feel the plants, trees and the ground. Connect to the spirit of nature with your own spirit. Feel free to talk to the plants and animals that surround you. Connecting your soul with the soul of Mother Nature is powerful and energizing.

The above steps are very simple to do and yet they can have such a profound effect on your life. Take time everyday to engage with Mother Nature and you will find inner harmony.

Taking Refuge Within

 Taking Refuge Within

The ancient sages studied man and for that they started with themselves.Through meditation and turning their gaze within they found there was a vast internal life. Going still deeper, they found another life, a self -existent, bodiless, pure luminous being. They found True-Self, they call "Atman," which is pure and untouched by evil. They also found the most inner truth of being is also the truth of all beings.

In their exploration, they also saw the opposite of man or the "Anatma."  They saw how man gives himself false identities, an ego-reign that holds onto attachments and hatred. But they also saw our good intentions or what is known as "Sattvika." Concentrating on the Atmic truth, the ancients found that through it resides all things beyond speech, mind and power. They taught that through this truth all things are manifested and the possibility for a world of great moral and spiritual order. Truth triumphs all, and that which is true never lacks truth.

To find the truth within take time everyday to sit quietly with yourself. Become cognizant of your breath and let go of the tendency to chase the mind. Instead, just let thoughts gracefully move away so the door opens to "true self." This is easier said then done, so you will need to practice patience. Recognize that your true potential lies within. Peace is there. We are the creators of the chaos we experience in life; no one else.

Belief

When the ancient sages and prophets talked about having "belief" or "faith" they were talking about something very different then what it means today. The call for having belief or faith was akin to taking action. It was not a call for intellect or a decision to be a believer or not a believer. Being a believer meant you were committed to living your life a particular way. And that way was to live according to the Golden Rule: To do onto to others what we would have them do to us.

Belief was a journey towards God. It was something you could grow into in a practical way rather than an intellectual way.The idea was to have people commit to live by the Golden Rule and by doing this it naturally led to a spiritual upsurge to God consciousness. In yoga one of the Niyamas is called "Ishvara Pranidana" which translates to "God-Focus." It means we should let go of the ego and surrender to God. We should never forget our divine nature and get lost in the physical egotistical nature.

The ancient sages all gave the same message; "let go of the ego." They saw the ego to be the source of all problems. This is because the ego takes us away from our natural essence. A believer says "no" from being disconnected from the whole. A believer seeks the joy that comes from being connected to the whole and open to divine grace.

Let's all become believers today and make a change for the better.

The Master Visualizer ~ Salvador Dali

 Salvador Dali

Almost everyone has heard of Salvador Dali, the crazy artist, mostly associated with melting clocks and a crazy moustache. The genius that is Dali goes much deeper though. Dali was not only a painter but an artist of many talents, and perhaps one of the most intriguing things about him was his perfect awareness of one of the biggest secrets of success. Dali was a master visualizer, who took bold actions without a shred of any evidence nor assurance, while not in the least lacking complete confidence, and in the end, he usually got what he previously so boldly announced. Dali's life was an experimentation and a game of possibilities. His spirit may have pulled him in various directions, but it must be understood that whatever his endeavor or obsession was at the time, the spirit of Salvador Dali was always vibrant and alive.

Salvatore Dali knew the secret of success wasn't about having more, but rather knowing everyday holds possibilities. Those of us who choose to be in the moment will see possibilities and transform them into reality. Below are some interesting quotes by Dali. Take your time today to read through these quotes and see if you can put them into action.

Quotes by Salvador Dali

"Every morning upon awakening, I experience a supreme pleasure: that of being Salvador Dali, and I ask myself, wonderstruck, what prodigious thing will he do today, this Salvador Dali."

"Have no fear of perfection, you'll never reach it."

"I shall be so brief that I have already finished."

"Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings."

"At the age of six I wanted to be a cook. At seven I wanted to be Napoleon. And my ambition has been growing steadily ever since."

Accepting What is

Accepting What is:

“There is nothing either good or bad,
but thinking makes it so.”
- William Shakespeare, “Hamlet”

This quote by Shakespeare says it all. How many of us get trapped into thinking things are bad or good based on our need to judge. This leads to a state of unhappiness.  Instead of judging whether something is good or bad we need to let go of the thought process and accept "it just is."

When we take this perspective in life and stop fighting against the Universe we can save ourselves from a lot of grief. We can still make changes and improve a situation but in a way that works with our intention to learn, to grow and follow your mission in life. There is a big difference between judging a situation and changing it because you want to grow from it.

When you find yourself judging, try to understand why you are doing that and then stand back and redirect your thoughts to acceptance. You may be surprised by the outcome.

Trusting and Letting Go: The Energy of the Serpent

Snakes have long held numerous interpretations in our world; being revered in certain cultures to the ultimate symbol of evil in others. In the Medicine Wheel the snake represents the south direction and the root chakra. Therefore, this symbol is about shedding the past and making sure our physical requirements are being met. It is about walking upon this earth softly so we can spend time to tend spirit.

The snake tells us to surrender to the "small stuff," and when we do so the organizational principles of the universe manifests so things can happen for us. Just letting go allows things to align and fall naturally into place. When we cast out worry then divine action can take the lead and the life you were always meant to live takes form.

Here's to giving the universe a chance to take the lead today.

Imagination

Butchart Gardens

Imagination is considered the power of the mind. It is a world where thoughts and images are nestled in the mind to form a mental concept of what is not actually present to the senses. Imagination is a form of meditation between an externalized reality and internalized thought. It is a powerful way to attract what is in the thought world into reality. Whatever you might see the imagination to be, it is certainly useful. It is a shame most people keep their imagination turned off and dare not turn it on. Below are some wonderful quotes about the imagination. Perhaps they will move you to spend some time imagining what could be.

Quotes for the Imagination:

‘Having imagination, it takes you an hour to write a paragraph that, if you were unimaginative, would take you only a minute.’ ~Franklin P. Adams

‘The man who has no imagination has no wings.’ ~ Muhammad Ali

‘Imagination is the highest kite that one can fly.’ ~ Lauren Bacall

‘Imagination was given to man to compensate for what he is not; a sense of humor to console him for what he is.’ ~ Francis Bacon

‘It is often said that men are ruled by their imaginations; but it would be truer to say they are governed by the weakness of their imaginations.’ ~ Walter Bagehot

‘Imagination is the air in the mind.’ ~ Philip Bailey

‘The sorcery and charm of imagination, and the power it gives to the individual to transform his world into a new world of order and delight, makes it one of the most treasured of all human capacities.’~ Frank Barron

Let's all delve into our imagination today and see what tomorrow brings.
