Thursdays - Meditate on This!
Every Thursday I will be giving you something to meditate on. Most types of meditation involve paying attention to your mind, then bringing your attention back to a chosen focal point. The mind likes to wonder, tell stories and move away from the present moment. Why not experiment with what to focus on and see what creates the most powerful impact for you.
Today, let's focus on the breath. This is perhaps the most common focal point in meditation and can be very effective. Here are a few ideas of how you can use the breath in your meditation.
- Inhale deeply and pause at the top or crest of the inhalation, then exhale slowly and pause at the bottom of the exhalation.
- Connect to the vibration of the Ujjayi (victorious breath). The sound vibration created by the slight contracting of your throat is a fabulous way to quiet the mind.
- Concentrate on the movement of your belly and chest when breathing. It feels like you are being rocked gently in your meditation.
Have fun experimenting with your breath the next time you sit in meditation. Journal how effective the breath was in bringing your attention back to the present moment.
