Learn How to Breathe!
Breathing is key to yoga practice and to meditation. Its what brings the poses to life and gives yoga its flow. The idea is to keep your awareness on your breath continuously as you move in and out of a pose or when sitting in meditation.
When we learn how to breathe properly the mind and body benefit tremendously. The breath quiets the mind and keeps the focus present. It also oxygenates the body and with more oxygen we feel physically better.
The following are some simple breath ratios to consider during yoga practice or simply in meditation.
1. Relaxing effect: Inhale for count of 4, hold for 1 count and exhale of count of 8 and hold for 4 count.
2. Balanced effect: Inhale count of 8, hold for 1 count, exhale 8 count and hold for 1 count.
