Body Wisdom

Discover the benefits of being mindful of your body. There are so many simple things you can do to tap into the wisdom of your body and heal yourself.  Here are just a few to get you started:

Massage - Scientific studies have shown that massage is one of the easiest ways to attain and maintain good health. It increases circulation, relaxes muscles, aids in digestion and stimulates the lymphatic system. That's the short list! Here's the thing, you don't have to get a professional massage for your body to benefit. You can do it yourself. Just warm up your hands by rubbing your palms together and pressing your fingers against each other to stretch finger joints. Then, concentrate on making rhythmic slow movements on the area of your body that needs attention. Experiment with stroke and adding essential oils to the process. Absorb yourself in the massage and enjoy!

Pebble Foot Bath: This is a wonderful way to relax and revive after a long day. Place round pebbles or marbles in a shallow tub or bowl and pour half cup of hot, salty water over them and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Put your feet in the tub and roll them over the pebbles!

Develop Breath Awareness: There is a close relationship between our pattern of breathing and our state of mind. Breathing tends to be shallow when we are anxious. By becoming more aware of our breathing, we can consciously control the mind. A simple breath  pattern to follow is to place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen, and focus on your hands as they rise and fall, reflecting the rhythm and depth of your breathing. As your breathe in, slowly count to 4, and as you breathe out, slowly count to six. Maintain this for at lease ten breaths.

Adopt the Pose of the Child: This is a classic yoga resting posture. This pose is calming and nurturing. Begin by kneeling down, buttocks resting on your heels, with your spine straight and your arms out to your sides. Exhaling, fold forward  from your hips , bringing your chest to rest on your thighs and your forehead on the floor. Let your hands slide back to your feet and your arms rest on the floor. Close your eyes and simply breathe.

Exercise: Go for a walk, jog or cycle through town. It doesn't matter what form of exercise you choose, just do it! Try to maintain body movement for 20 to 30 minutes for optimum results. You'll find the benefits to be amazing.

Pamper Yourself: The body is a vehicle for your spirit, so it's important to take care of it, nurture it with healthy foods, good hygiene, regular haircuts and beautiful clothing. You will look and feel healthier, which will boost your self esteem.
